New DVD from Juan Martin - released 24th May 2010
Flamenco guitar legend Juan Martin and his Ensemble here stunningly capture in the pinpoint clarity of HDV the electrifying rhythms of guitar, dancers’ footwork, the yearning melodies of singer and woodwind and combine them in a kaleidoscope of brilliant colour that brings London’s Barbican audience to their feet.

On one Spring evening last May, Juan Martín and his sextet committed to film the elusive and spontaneous art of flamenco ‘duende’ music and dance. Besides excitement, there is much subtlety in the playing, sensuality in the dance and amazing virtuosity by each individual of the group. Juan Martín himself introduces each number briefly and articulately takes us through this journey of the art from its Moorish roots through to state of the art jazz inflected numbers of today’s vanguard.
The prize winning artists from Andalucia include Raquel de Luna ‘Nothing could have prepared us for the sheer sexual theatre’ and Salvador Moreno El Tigre, the Fred Astaire of flamenco with lightening feet and upper body elegance.

Juan Martín was voted in the top guitarists in the world by US Guitar magazine and is internationally renowned for his many cds, books and dvds that have taught the world to play flamenco ‘Dr Flamenco’ The Times. Amongst the normal touring schedule he also include some extraordinary places such as Iran where he was the 1st Western artist to perform in 2004 and again this year, performing to 3,000 people a night.
